Stracciatella
A milk and cream base with crunchy flakes of dark chocolate.
Irregular flakes of dark chocolate hide in a smooth milk base and crunch pleasantly. Stracciatella comes from Bergamo in Italy, and its name means roughly “little shreds.” The whole charm is the contrast between soft cream and a chocolate crunch.

Story
Stracciatella was created in 1961 by Enrico Panattoni at the La Marianna gelateria in Bergamo. It was inspired by stracciatella soup, where egg breaks into small shreds in the broth. In the ice cream, the shreds are melted chocolate that sets in the cold base.
